Counterfeit Money Orders Passed in New Jersey

Jul 19, 2005

NJ CAR was recently made aware of an Internet-based sale, made by one of its members, that was ultimately not consummated as payment was made using counterfeit money orders. The car was originally sold over the Internet and was to be shipped and titled to an address in England. The purchaser paid with money orders in increments of $1,000, which ended up being counterfeit. Fortunately, the dealership had held on to the car long enough to determine the payment was tainted, so they did not suffer a monetary loss. Make sure payment is clearly verified (and legal) before releasing any product to a purchaser, whether parts or a vehicle.
