The State Senate passed bill S1793 on Monday, March 26, 2018, which creates a Clean Vehicle Taxk Force to study issues related to the promotion and use of zero-emission vehicles in New Jersey. A duplicate bill passed both legislative chambers last year, but was vetoed by former Governor Chris Christie before he left office.
One of the charges for the Clean Vehicle Task Force evaluate the State's compliance with the 2004 Clean Car Program, which required the Department of Environmental Protection to adopt California's zero emission vehicle requirements. S1793 has not yet been scheduled for consideration by Assembly.
The Senate also passed bill S606, which encourages municipalities to plan for an electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Similarly, bill S606 also awaits consideration by the Assembly.
