NJ CAR Hosts An Informative Webinar On New Jersey’s New Motor Vehicle Data Deletion Requirements

Mar 07, 2024

In January, New Jersey made headlines when it passed the 14th privacy law in the country. What few noticed is that Governor Murphy also signed another bill focused on privacy in vehicles, which went into effect IMMEDIATELY. Bill A4723 (P.L. 2023, c.314) requiers Motor Vehicle Dealers to offer to delete personal data from vehicles taken in for resale or lease. Greyson Hannigan, NJ CAR Director of Legal & Regulatory Affairs ([email protected]) hosted a webinar to discuss various topics surrounding the law including:

  • what dealers need to start doing, IMMEDIATELY, to be compliant with the law to avoid statutory fines of up to $1,000 per violation.
  • NJ CAR Services Form #670 (Motor Vehicle Personal Data Deletion Notice).
  • the dealership’s ability to charge a reasonable fee for deleting data.
