In January, New Jersey made headlines when it passed the 14th privacy law in the country. What few noticed is that Governor Murphy also signed another bill focused on privacy in vehicles, which went into effect IMMEDIATELY. Bill A4723 (P.L. 2023, c.314) requiers Motor Vehicle Dealers to offer to delete personal data from vehicles taken in for resale or lease. - the dealership’s ability to charge a reasonable fee for deleting data.
