NJMVC No Longer Accepting Connecticut Re-Assignment Form In Title Transfers

Apr 17, 2024

The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission just announced they will no longer accept Connecticut Supplemental Assignment of Ownership (Q-1) forms for the purpose of title transfers in New Jersey. The Q-1 from Connecticut is ONLY for transactions in that State, and only for vehicles titled in Connecticut.

Dealers acquiring a vehicle registered in Connecticut will now be required to flip the title into the dealerships’ name in Connecticut (and pay the applicable sales tax), before they can turn around and sell, title or register the vehicle here in New Jersey.

NJ CAR warns dealers to be cautious about taking any Connecticut-registered vehicles in trade or acquiring them through auction.

The Coalition will provide any additional information, as it becomes available.
