On February 8, 2021, the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) issued invoices to more than 350 new car dealerships for “improperly” issued temps. When a dealer issues an “extension” (only allowed under two specific situations) the additional fee of $25 is charged at the time of issuance.
However, if your dealership issued another temp as a “new” sale (for the same vehicle) it is not considered an “extension”, therefore the $25 is not immediately charged. As a result, the temporary registration is considered to be issued “improperly”.
The payment is due March 8, 2021. If the invoice is not paid by the due date, the dealership’s temp privileges will be suspended.
