Acquiring A Salvage Title


Defined as: Title document that denotes a salvage vehicle and includes the word SALVAGE printed across the front in large diagonal letters.
 
Stipulations:
  • A title will be issued by MVC upon notification by owner or insurer of a vehicle; if the was vehicle stolen and not recovered within 30 days; if the vehicle was involved in a collision or has otherwise sustained damage greater than the value of the vehicle.

  • A title can be flipped into the name of a dealership or insurer at the same time the SALVAGE indicator is put on.
Required Paperwork
  1. ISM/SS-7 form Application for Certificate of Ownership used for Standard Title Issuance
  2. ISM/SS-61 form Application for Salvage Certificate of Title
  3. Original title with the NJ Sales Tax Satisfied Stamp of the dealership on the back.
  4. Statement from the party submitting the title as follows:
            · Declare the reason for salvage status.
            · Include year, make, model, and full vehicle identification number.
