Don’t forget that New Jersey’s law regarding cell phone use while driving goes into affect as of July 1, 2004.As of that date, drivers can no longer talk on a hand-held wireless telephone while driving in New Jersey.Hands-free wireless telephones are allowed under the new law. Reporting medical or roadside emergencies and hazards, criminal acts and other extenuating circumstances are exempt from the new law. Also NJ CAR wants dealerships to know that there are compliance issues for employers as well.The Coalition recommends that members issue a policy stating that New Jersey law stipulates that it is illegal for drivers to use a hand-held phone while driving and that dealership employees are thereby informed of the state law and should not use a phone while driving on company business.
