Included in the legislation (P.L. 2016, Chapter 57) that increased New Jersey’s Gas Tax by $.23/gallon was a slight decrease in the State’s Sales Tax. Effective January 1, 2017 the New Jersey Sales Tax will be reduced from the current 7.0% to 6.875%.
Dealerships will want to make sure that their computers have been programmed to begin charging the lower Sales Tax rate on January 1.
