In Memoriam- Robert Burd

Nov 06, 2015

It is with deep sadness and a sense of loss that we report the passing of Robert Burd, who served as President of the New Jersey Automobile Dealers Association (NJADA) in 1971.

Robert, 90, served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, and was a Quartermaster in the first wave at Normandy. Following his service in the Coast Guard, Robert joined his father and brother at the family’s first dealership, Burd Chevrolet. In the ensuing years, the family added Volkswagen, Audi, Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth franchises. In addition to heading the NJADA, Robert served as New Jersey’s NADA Director and was Secretary of New Jersey’s National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA). He also won the TIME Magazine Quality Dealer Award (TMQDA) in 1969, and was a trustee and director of the Automotive Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 69 years, Fay; sons, John, James and Robert; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and many family and friends.

Donations in Robert’s memory can be made to: Home Instead Senior Care of Washington, NJ, or the Karen Quinlan Hospice in Newton, NJ.

NJ CAR’s condolences go out to the family and friends of Robert Burd.
