NJ CAR will be hosting an Advertising Regulations Update Workshop on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at the Hotel Woodbridge at MetroPark (120 Wood Avenue South, Iselin, NJ 08830). The workshop features Brad Miller, Esq., NADA Director and Regulatory Counsel, as well as Cindy Miller, Esq., Deputy Director of the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs. The workshop will run from 9:30 AM until 1 PM and costs ONLY $199 per participant for Dealer Members and their ad agency representatives.
In March 2015, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and 32 law enforcement agencies across the country announced a massive crackdown on deceptive advertising, as well as fraud in auto sales, financing and leasing. Violations can result in long-term consent decrees and large fines.
This workshop will provide a thorough review of the FTC’s ongoing advertising enforcement actions against dealers and the specific types of advertising that have drawn the attention of the agency. All attendees will receive a copy of NADA’s “A Dealer Guide to Federal Advertising Requirements.” Brad will address federal regulatory issues dealing with auto dealer advertising. Cindy will cover the latest developments on the State level and discuss what dealership personnel can do to self-police their advertising.

Understanding The “Nuts & Bolts” Of Employment Law

Following several successful seminars earlier this Summer, NJ CAR will be hosting another Employment Law training seminar on September 24, 2015 at the offices of Genova Burns, LLC (494 Broad Street, Newark, NJ 07102). The seminar features one of the firm’s partners, Dina M. Mastellone, Esq., Director of Genova Burns LLC’s Human Resource Training & Audit Programs Practice Group and Counsel in the firm’s Employment Litigation Practice Group. The seminar will run from 9:30 AM until 12:30 PM and costs ONLY $199 per participant for Dealer Members.
The seminar will provide attendees with a better understanding of how to maintain compliance with all applicable employment laws. When used consistently and fairly, employment laws assist companies in creating and maintaining an environment that promotes cooperation and professionalism. In addition, the proper understanding of the law can help prevent costly litigation.
Dina will discuss the “dos and don’ts” of hiring (including pre-employment testing, new requirements for employment applications and the job interview process), as well as employee reprimands, performance appraisals and proper ways of terminating an employee. She will also touch on how to avoid risky behavior to prevent claims of harassment or discrimination in the workplace, and how management should address such claims. The workshop will also provide comprehensive training on understanding the Federal Family & Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA), the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), as well as the applicable leave of absence law for New Jersey.

NJ CAR’s 2015 Motor Vehicle Title Clerk Certification
October 14-16, 2015 In Ewing;November 18-20, 2015 In Edison
NJ CAR will be hosting two, three-day sessions of its very popular Motor Vehicle Title Clerk Certification Program in October and November. These will be the final two sessions offered in 2015.
Individuals who successfully complete this Program will have a full, working knowledge of New Jersey Motor Vehicle documents and procedures. Although the Seminar has been designed for New Jersey Title Clerks, the Program is extremely valuable to Office Managers, Controllers and anyone else who provides support to the Title Clerk position in your dealership. Topics covered include:
?New Jersey Identification Information;?Special Plates;?General Title Procedures;?Dealer Temporary Tags;?Lien Information and Select Title Transactions;?Preparation of Documents;?Corrections and Centrally Processed Transactions;?New Jersey Sales & Use Tax;?Power of Attorney Forms;?Business License Services;?Odometer Disclosure;?New Jersey Motor Vehicle Fees; and?Registrations.
The Motor Vehicle Title Clerk Certification Program will be held each day from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. (breakfast, lunch and refreshments will be provided). The next class will be held October 14-16, 2015 at NJ CAR Headquarters (856 River Road, Ewing, NJ 08628). There is also a class scheduled for November 18-20, 2015 at The Mironov Group (2025 Lincoln Highway, Suite 300, Edison, NJ 08817). The three-day Program costs only $449 per person and includes all required materials (including a copy of the 2015 NJ CAR Motor Vehicle Training & Reference Manual).
