Used vehicle sales across all retail channels reached just under 4.4 million units in June, bringing the year-to-date total to nearly 18.6 million used cars and light trucks, according to the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA). New car dealers accounted for 1.6 million used vehicles sold in June, up 2.5% compared to June 2014.
According to Manheim’s Used Vehicle Value Index, wholesale prices of used vehicles sold in June were up slightly after four consecutive months of decline. The index measures changes in used vehicle values and is adjusted for vehicle model mix, mileage and time of year.
Pickups and vans were the only segments to post value increases in June from the year-earlier month. Prices of pickups increased 6.7% and van prices rose 2.7%.
Compact cars experienced the most dramatic price decreases in June, with overall wholesale prices down 7.2% from June 2014.
