Many Student Technicians Seeking AYES Internships

Mar 15, 2005

The best high school automotive technical students from throughout New Jersey are currently completing their applications and polishing up their interview skills, as they prepare to venture out into the “real world” of gainful employment. NJ CAR has, thus far, identified nearly 50 students who are seeking internships at New Jersey dealerships. As you can see from the list of schools who have responded and the number of students available from each school, there are not many students to go around. Over the next few weeks, these schools will be looking to connect with dealerships willing to provide opportunities for interested students to spend a day or two in the workplace (known as “shadowing”).This is a great chance for students to get exposed to a “real world” example of what it is like to work as an automotive technician in a retail dealership. The shadowing process is also a great opportunity for dealerships to conduct extended “interviews” in hopes of finding a good candidate for summer, and possibly future, employment. Additional schools are expected to return their information in the weeks ahead and NJ CAR will pass that information on to dealers as it arrives. Here are the schools that will be looking to place students in the coming weeks: ·Atlantic County Institute of Technology- 4 student technicians ·Bergen County Tech Schools (2 schools)- 4 student technicians ·Burlington County Inst. of Tech. (2 schools)- 9 student technicians ·Camden County Vo-Tech (2 schools)- 5 student technicians ·Hunterdon County Polytech- 4 student technicians ·Manalapan High School- 2 student technicians ·Mercer County Vocational- 5 student technicians ·Middlesex County Vo-Tech (4 schools)- 7 student technicians ·Ocean County Vo-Tech (3 schools)- 4 student technicians ·Passaic County Technical Institute- 5 student technicians ·Warren County Vo-Tech- 2 student technicians Dealerships interested in participating in this valuable program can contact Mark McAleer at 609.883.5056, ext. 332.Remember there will likely be only five or six dozen students with more than 600 dealerships possibly expressing interest in meeting them.
