FCC Requires Monthly Download of Do-Not-Call Registry

Jan 06, 2005

As of January 1, any company initiating a telephone solicitation must now use a version of the National Do-Not-Call Registry that is no more than 31 days old. This time frame was shortened from the previous three-month window allowed to update the list. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have provided a less burdensome alternative to those sellers that register and pay the annual fee to use the registry. These companies do not have to conduct the initial or subsequent download of the database “if they use only the single-phone number look-up feature to screen their outgoing telephone solicitations.” Dealerships that use this feature must record and maintain a list of telephone numbers obtained using the single-number look-up feature and document the process.
