DOT Hazardous Material Certification Training

April 24, 2013

Is it time to renew your Service Technician’s New Jersey Department Of Transportation (NJDOT) HazMat Certification? The federal Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Law was developed to protect against the risks to life, property and the environment, which are inherent in the transportation of hazardous materials. HazMat training is required by the DOT for any employee responsible for the shipping of hazardous materials.Employers are also required to maintain documentation relative to the training and provide refresher training every three years. In most instances, automobile dealerships ship and receive hazardous materials making them subject to the regulations. Many vehicle manufacturers also require that dealers provide training documentation.NJ CAR, in conjunction with Environmental Compliance Monitoring (ECM), has prepared a HazMat Training Program that includes topics, such as: general awareness and familiarization, function-specific criteria, security and safety. This training course will satisfy both initial and three-year refresher DOT training requirements for a HazMat employer. The Seminar will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at NJ CAR Headquarters (856 River Road, West Trenton, NJ 08628). The cost of the Seminar is $189 per person for NJCAR Dealer Members. You can register for this (or any NJ CAR Academy) Seminar online at the NJ CAR Academy Page (http://www.njcar.org/njcarAcademy/dsp_trainingSchedule.cfm) under EDUCATION on the public side of the Coalition’s website (www.njcar.org).
