Suzuki Motor Corporation Files For Bankruptcy

On November 5, 2012, Suzuki Motor Corporation filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in California, as part of the company’s reorganization, setting the stage for the manufacturer to exit the U.S. automotive market after nearly 30 years. Suzuki will stop the sale of new automobiles in the U.S., though it will continue offering motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles and boat motors.The manufacturer has sent a letter to dealers outlining how it intends to proceed through the bankruptcy process, and also communicated with existing Suzuki customers indicating that it intends to honor its warranty obligations to them.NADA is in the process of reviewing the court filings and the letter Suzuki sent to its dealers and will keep all Suzuki dealers informed of steps NADA will take to assist the affected dealers.
